About

Growing up in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, Leigh took up guitar at the age of twelve. Introduced to the blues by his first guitar teacher, it had an immediate appeal and has remained a strong influence on his music. In his early twenties he put his guitar down to pursue his interest in art, but returned to it in his early thirties. It was at this time he started playing lap slide guitar and once again began writing songs which focused his musical activities. This led him to performing and on to recording his debut album titled ‘Sliding to your Destiny’ which he released in April 2006.

In November 2008 Leigh launched his second album titled ‘Looking for the Clues’ and released his third album ‘More Than I Need’ in August 2012. He also has songs included on the compilation CDs, ‘Pick of the Crop 3‘ released by Trad & Now Magazine, ‘Music in a Quiet Place’ (a selection from the 2009 Melbourne Library Service Acoustic Series) and ‘A Mountain of Sound 2014’, released by 3MDR Mountain District Radio 97.1FM. Leigh has toured internationally and has regularly been performing at festivals along the east coast of Australia.

In August 2013 ‘The Leigh Sloggett Duo’ was formed with the addition of the drummer  Les Oldman and from 2015 Rob Groves also joined Leigh on occasions replacing Les, depending on their availability.

In 2019 the Leigh Sloggett Trio was formed with Matt Crump on drums and Chris Riseley on double bass. Their unique blend of blues-roots are being warmly received by audiences wherever they play.
